Our the Often-neglected Vertebral Artery

چکیده
tative marker of cerebral perfusion, since its variation is so small. In accordance with other technical approaches,8 we hypothesize that a delay of TPI forecasts hypoperfused and potentially still salvageable tissue, whereas regions without detectable perfusion kinetic forecasts ischemia, ie, the core of the infarction. As a cut-off for a significant TPI delay we determined the double of the maximum variation in the healthy cohort, ie, 4 seconds. These considerations were supported by preliminary cases of acute stroke patients examined by the same protocol,9 in one of which we could demonstrate a region without a perfusion kinetic (where eventually infarction occurred) and a region with a delayed perfusion kinetic, where eventually tissue stayed viable after clinically successful thrombolytic therapy (Figure). Thus, we propose that for future ultrasonic perfusion imaging protocols using the bolus-kinetic, the bilateral approach should be applied with settings optimized for a quantitative evaluation of the kinetic parameters in order to differentiate “penumbra” and core of infarction.

Rare Variation in the Right Vertebral Artery
The variations of vertebral artery are important with regard to their potential clinical impact .The study reports the variation of course of right vertebral artery in male cadaver. The vertebral arteries arise from the superioposterior aspect of the first part of subclavian artery. The vessel takes a vertical course to enter into the transverse foramen of sixth cervical vertebra. Right vertebr...
متن کاملAnatomical Variations of Vertebral Artery
Introduction: Vertebral arteries arise from the root of the neck as the first branches from the superior-posterior aspect of the subclavian arteries. They ascend the neck to enter the cranial cavity and supply blood to the brain. Methods: A total of 20 cadavers (in 10 years) were dissected for the study of variations in the origin of the vertebral artery. This study was conducte...
متن کاملA Case Report of Variant Origin of Left Vertebral Artery from Aortic Arch and its Embryological Explanation
Vertebral artery is the first branch of subclavian artery. It merges with the same artery of the opposite side to form basilar artery and becomes one of the important source of blood supply to the brain. Variation in the origin of left vertebral artery was found in 65 year old female during magnetic resonance angiography of the neck vessels. It originated from aortic arch and was longer as ...
متن کاملA case of aberrant bilateral vertebral arteries orgin presenting with right VA dissection
Background: Knowledge of variations in the origin of vertebral artery (VA) is indispensable to vascular surgeons. Aberrant origin of vertebral artery on either side is an uncommon finding. There are unilateral and bilateral variability in VA origin. Case presentation: We present a case of vertebral artery dissection who was found to have bilateral VAs aberrant origin. The right VA took origin ...
متن کاملClinical features of proven basilar artery occlusion.
Our study describes the early symptoms and signs of 85 patients with either basilar artery occlusion or bilateral distal vertebral artery occlusion documented by selective angiography. The most common prodromal symptoms were vertigo, nausea, and headache, which occurred during the 2 weeks before the stroke. Angiographic findings of 49 patients were classified into proximal, middle, and distal b...
متن کاملEVALUATION OF THE RESULTS OF SURGICAL AND MEDICAL TREATMENT IN 16 PATIENTS WITH VERTIGO SECONDARY TO CERVICAL SPONDYLOSIS
ABSTRACT Background: In patients with cervical spondylosis, cord compression and impingement of cord vessels as well as the vertebral artery may be accompanied by vertigo. We evaluated improvement of vertigo in these patients after surgical and medical treatment. Methods: In this prospective study we reviewed 16 patients with vertigo suspected of cervical spondylosis, admitted to our hospital ...
